OAEC performed at 2012 BMTA Piano Festival

 

On March 31, 2012, OAEC was invited to perform in 2012 BMTA Piano Festival - "Dances Through The Ages" at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson, TX.  OAEC students Michelle Wan, Alice Kwok, Julia Kwok, Jenny Zhu, Meggie Yang, and senior student Cissy Xiao performed 4 styles of dance: Dai dance "Splash"; Tibetan dance "Kumara"; Sichuan dance – “Pretty Opera Girls”, as well as a classical dance – “Broken Bridge” which just won the Platinum Award in 2012 Dance Showcase Region Competition. Their outstanding performances received high praises from the event organizer - the Brazosport Music Teacher Association.

OAEC energetically performed 4 consecutive sessions for different student audiences at the college. Between the performance sessions, Cissy Xiao also provided introduction about the music, philosophy and expressions in Chinese ethical dances as well as background knowledge of Chinese cultures.  OAEC performers demonstrated how to maneuver the Chinese handkerchief and fans, which promoted interesting interactions with the audiences.  The whole event is well received and the depth of Chinese culture and arts truly impressed all the audiences.
